About me.

Joaquim Carvalho – or simply “Jo” to most of my Colleagues, Family and Friends.

I’m a fun loving extrovert, dynamic, curious and always looking for ways to grow and improve – be it myself, or the world around me.

Nowadays, I’m looking at self-improvement (mainly as a dad), but also interested in giving back to society somehow.

Don’t take the site as self-promotion. It’s really more of a personal reminder, that i must execute on my goal of having my-corner-office. I registered the domain years ago, and really needed a decent landing page. I promise to improve it …

Years in IT

I studied Computer Science, and have worked in IT for 25+ years. Everything from Teaching, Coding, Project Management to Product Marketing and Sales.

Years in Sales

I’ve been working in Sales since my days in TIBCO. It’s not the sale itself; but the results achieved by my customers that energize me – I love to support innovation and disruption.

Years in Cloud Sales

Wow, nine years since my first Cloud pitch – selling distributed cloud computing for Risk Calculation to the Banking industry. Since then; SAP (HEC/RISE), Oracle and AWS.

Lecturing & Speaker

I was a professor (Computer Science) at ISEC in Coimbra and then went into product marketing as an early employee at Critical Software (a then spinoff in Coimbra, PT).

Consulting

I’ve worked as; a consultant, project manager and manager of Integration for Indra (Portugal) and Delivery Manager/Director covering Pre and Post Sales for TIBCO (Portugal & Spain).

PreSales

I was a presales Solutions Consultant for TIBCO, covering Data Integration & API Management (TIBCO & Mashery), Analytics (JasperSoft & Spotfire), Complex Events Processing (LogLogic) and later Cloud Computing (DataSynapse).

Service & Project Management

During my tenure at TIBCO, I lead the PSG (Professional Services Group) out of Madrid, covering 20+ consulants in Iberia (Portugal & Spain).

Sales

My move into sales, was a natural step at TIBCO, and later moved into sales at SAP, Oracle and now AWS.

I love consultative selling; listening to issues that people share, and finding the magic tools that come together to build a cohesive solution.

Innovation & Digital Disruption

Ultimately, I immerse myself in my customer’s reality and work with them and for them. Finding from the simplest solution – to the most disruptive and innovative.

Anything and everything, to build a compelling and actionable narrative.

Apart from my day job, I love to share thoughts and bounce ideas off my closest friends. We’re not Angel Investors, we’re not a Board of Advisors, but we are highly experienced in Digital Innovation, Data Management & Security.
